Handan , located in the junction part of four provinces in the middle of northern China, is a famous ancient city of this country. It has a civil history of 8000 years which we called ‘Ci Shan Culture’ and a construction history of 3100 years dated back to Shang Dynasty. Nowadays Handan has an area of 12,0000 km square and a population of almost 1 billion. It is the famous ancient city of the country, Garden City of China, Excellent Tourism City of China etc. There are two main races here: Han and Hui race. Which are the majority and the biggest minority races in China. The eating habit of Hui is special that we should pay special attention to: they never eat pork, dog and donkey. And don’t even try to eat such things in front of them.
Wa Imperial Palace The Wa imperial palace, familiarly known as “Nainai Ding", is located at the Tangwangjiao mountain, in the northwest of Shexian village. It’s one of the traditional Shexian Eight sights where is said that NuWa made the soil man and the Sky -Hole was patched by stone. It is surrounded by hills and water and is a well-known tourist resort. The Wa imperial palace is the biggest and earliest historical that is used in making sacrifices to NuWa in China; it’s also a palace of the king of Beiqi Dynasty who came and back between Yecheng and Jinyang town. Wuling Congtai—Reminiscing about the history of Zhao Dynasty WulingCongtai is the main structure of Congtai Park, one of the protected historical sites in Hebei Province. it was honored as “state AAAA level scenic spots”in 2007.It was built in the reign of King Wuling of Zhao State in the Warring States Period. King Wuling built the terrace to enjoy singing and dancing performance and watch military drills. It has a long history of more than 2000 years .The name of Congtai Terrace was first seen in the description of it in “History of Han Dynasty”—“It consists of many stands, being overlapped with each other and formed into one, so that it was called Congtai”.
Zhaoyuan—Revive history of the Warring States Period Zhaoyuan Park is the first part heritage sites under state protection, National Grade AAAA Tourist Attraction. It’s a typical park to show and feel the special charm of ancient Zhao Culture; it’s also a multiple park of history literary quotation and garden landscape.
King City of Zhao—the Forbidden City in Handan King City of Zhao was an imperial palace when Zhao state built the capital in Handan, such as the Beijing Forbidden City in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. King City of Zhao Ruins Park is located at 4km southeast to Handan City, which is the best one of the Warring states the ancient sites in China. It is the first batch important historical and cultural relics under the state protection issued by the State Council in 1961.
King's Tombs of Zhao State—The oriental pyramid King’s Tombs of Zhao State is located in the Northwest border between Handan village and Yongnian Village, at the east side of Zishan Mountain which is 20km to Handan downtown. Five Tombs stand one by one where you can recall the history 2000 years ago.
Golden Millet Dream Temple—It is only A illusory dream Golden Millet Dream Temple(LvXianCi)is located in Huangliangmeng village, 3 km north to Handan city. It is one of the famous historical sites as a tourist spots in Hebei, which is a prior-protected historical site of the province, National Grade AAA Tourist Attraction. It is a Taoist temple which was built in early Northern Song Dynasty based on a legendary tale “A Story of Pillow” in Tang Dynasty. It consists of a group of buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties, covering an area of 14000 square meters. Its main structures include Zhongli Hall, Lvzu Hall, and Lusheng Hall, which lie on the axis of the temple. The other structures include the Temple Gate, the Octagonal Pavilion in Lotus Pool, the Pavilion for the Eight Immortals, Tablets Gallery ,Chinese Famous Dreams Museum, the Temporary Palace for Empress Dowager Cixi etc. It features harmonious and unified styles, combining the peacefulness of the Taoist temples in the north of China and the delicate and pretty of the gardens in the south. So it has won such a good reputation as “Penglai Foiryland”.
Guangfu Ancient Town—Ancient Town, Water Town, Taichi Town Guangfu Ancient Town, also called Yongniancheng, is in Yongnian marsh of Yongnian Village. It is a typical northern Chinese ancient town surrounded by an artificial river. According to the old tradition, it was Maosui’s fief during the warring states period. Yang Taichi and Wu Taichi were founded in Guangfu Town. Consequently, Guangfu is praised as “Taichi Town”. So Guangfu is acknowledged as a historical cultural town, which has features of Ancient Town, Water Town and Taichi Town.
Xiangtangshan Grottoes—Spiritual home of a disappeared dynasty Xiangtangshan also called Gushan, which is a National Grade AAAA Tourist Attraction. Xiangtangshan grottoes have two sites which are 15km apart, the northern and southern grottoes. The grottoes were built since the Northern Qi Dynasty. In the Sui, Tang, Song and Ming Dynasties, the construction was continued. There are 16 grottoes, over 4,300 Buddhas, lots of carved Buddhas and lots of carved Buddhist scriptures.
Cizhou Ceramics—The biggest porcelain in Northern China In ancient times, Cizhou Ceramics was the biggest porcelain in Northern China, which was an outstanding representative of porcelain. The name “Cizhou Ceramics” came from that there were many kilns in old Cizhou(Ci county and Fengfeng Mine today). Cizhou Ceramics is an important historical and cultural relic under the state protection issued by the State Council.
Daming—A historical cultural city Daming site of the BeiSong dynasty comprised three city wall--outer city、imperial city、Palace city. The circumference of the outer city wall was almost 24 kilometers, which was like an irregularity square. From Qian (Hou) Dongmenkou village to Tiechuangkou and Shadi village, it was Weizhoucheng Town in Tang dynasty. The Palace was at the Dajiexiang because of the higher terrain of water scarcity.
Jingniang Lake Jingniang lake is located in Wu'an City, 60km away from northwestern Handan City, as a National Tourist Attraction of Grade AAAA. According to "jing shi tong yan " wrote by Feng Menglong(A writer in the Ming dynasty), Zhao Kuangyin who had spent a night here while he sent Jingniang to thousands of miles away,that is why it is called Jingniang Lake.
Ancient Wudang Mountain Ancient Wudang Mountain is a famous Taoist mountain,which is in northwestern Wu’an city also a National Grade AAAA Tourist Attraction, deep in Mount Taihang and 70km away from Handan City. There are five peaks, Jinding( also called Laoyeding) is the highest one whose elevation is 1437 meters, which is known as“the King of peak”in Mount Taihang of Wu’an.
The Jin-Ji-Lu-Yu Cemetery of revolutionary martyrs, Place of purify one's soul The Jin-Ji-Lu-Yu Cemetery of revolutionary martyrs (JinJiLuYu Revolution Memorial Halls) site is located in the middle part in Lingyuan Road of Handan City.It was decided by the Senate of JinJiLuYu Border Region in March 1946, under the Spirit of Seventh National Party Congress. The cemetery was designed to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives from the Headquarters, Political Departments, and Division 129 of the Eighth Route Army in JinJiLuYu Border Region. The construction was started in March 1946 and finished on October 21.1950.It is the very first magnificent revolutionary memorial construction of The People’s Republic of China after the victory of Anti-Japanese War in the World War Ⅱ which is one of the earliest sites of revolutionary martyrs memorials in its scales, architecture, and surroundings. Jin-Ji-Lu-Yu Cemetery of revolutionary martyrs is the one well protected site for Martyrs Memorial Building, Patriotic educational training ground, and one of the 100 Classic Tourist Spots in the National Red Tourism. Zedong Mao、Enlai Zhou、De Zhu、Xiaoping Deng and etc. all came to Pay respect and condolence.
The 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army Headquarters—Liu Deng army birthplace The 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army Headquarters site is located in Shexian chi'an village, in west of Handan city about 100km. It is one of the prior protected historical sites of Hebei Province. In 1940, the Eighth Route Army to fight the Japanese invaders, swept advance Taihang Mountain area, 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army Headquarters by the end of December to move in Chi’an Village, Liu Bocheng, Deng Xiaoping, Li Da and another generation of proletarian revolutionaries of the majority of soldiers and civilians in this leadership to completely smash the Japanese brutal raids on the bases。 At here(Chi’an Village ),they were command of the liberation war in the last party, the Ping-Han campaigns.
